Parent Orientation

Is your son new to scouting? Be sure to check out a couple of online orientation courses:

Pack 4380 Leadership Meeting

Pack leadership meets every month during the school year to plan activities and to communicate to the dens. Parents are welcome. Check the calendar for meeting times and location.

Camping Orientation & Planning

New to camping? Our district, Northern Lights, offers a Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training for parents to learn the skills, planning and gear needed for a successful pack camp out. All packs must have at least one BALOO trained adult present at all Pack camp outs.

Webelos that go on a den camp out or to Webelos Woods require an adult leader present that has been trained in Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) OR Outdoor Webelos Leader (OWL) Training. OWL is not offered by Northern Lights, but may be available at other districts. IOLS training is also a leadership requirement for a Boy Scout Troop.

Youth Protection Training (YPT)

Pack 4380 requires ALL registered adults that will be present at any pack/den attending meeting, field trip or camp out to take Youth Protection Training (YPT). YPT is required for all adults in leadership positions. There are 2 options to complete YPT:
  • Online Youth Protection Training
  • Face-to-Face Youth Protection Training - required for adults that will attend/volunteer at a district summer camp or Webelos Resident Camp in the state of Texas. This course is offered by Circle Ten Council as well as it's districts throughout the year.
  • YPT must be taken every 2 years.

Adult Leadership Training

ALL pack adult leaders are required to take 2 training course:
  • Youth Protection Training
  • Position Specific Training
Both courses are offered online or at face-to-face trainings offered throughout the year from our district, Northern Lights. Once trained adult leaders will receive a red "trained" patch to place on the left sleeve of their field uniform.

Monthly Roundtable

Each month parents and leaders from packs and troops from across our district, Chisholm Trail, meet to discuss various topics and to learn of upcoming district events. Check out our district website for times and locations.

University of Scouting

On January 6, Circle 10 Council hosts University of Scouting at SMU (main campus in University Park) 7:00AM - 5:00PM. Over 1000 adult scouters will be in attendance. It is an action-packed, fun-filled single day of supplemental training where you choose the sessions that you wish to take. Sessions are led by experienced volunteers who will help you enhance your ability to deliver a fun and exciting program to the scouts.

More?... Wood Badge

Wood Badge is the premier training program for all Scout leaders in the Boy Scouts of America.  This includes all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity and Venturing Leaders, District and Council Committee members as well as Professional Scouters.  Wood Badge is designed to train adults using the latest leadership skills and techniques.  The course will strengthen every volunteer's ability to work with and lead groups of youth and adults.
